About the School

It is the character of a Sedberghian that makes this School truly Unique.

We could list our impressive history, facilities and examination record, or our achievements in Sport and Drama and our distinguished alumni. However we believe that what makes Sedbergh School outstanding is our ability to prepare exceptional young people for Life.

Our unique features - from our spectacular location to high level of pastoral care, and our commitment to nurturing individual talents and aspirations - help all our pupils to become spirited, well-rounded young adults with the confidence to make the most of Life.

Sedberghians are sociable, caring, well-mannered, self-confident, energetic and healthy. They are keen to make the most of personal opportunities yet aware of the wider world and their responsibility towards it; they delight in learning yet have independent minds; they can debate and communicate, and work independently or in a team. They also develop other valuable qualities such as a strong work ethic, loyalty and integrity.

The thriving Senior School has 450 pupils ranging in age from 13 to 18 years, who are supported by 80 qualified and committed teaching staff, coaches and pastoral care specialists.  Sedbergh Junior School, including a Pre-Prep department, has now moved to the same location and is going from strength to strength with 100 girls and boys aged 4 to 13.

"Sedbergh has faced up to the demands of the 21st Century but managed to retain traditional values and ethos. Its increasing numbers indicate parents very much approve. It rightly retains its formidable reputation on the sports field but away from it, provides a happy and caring environment for all its pupils regardless of ability or sports prowess."

The Good Schools Guide

If you are seeking a challenging learning environment with exceptional pastoral care, academic excellence alongside sporting prowess and artistic flair, and would enjoy belonging to a community that lives, works and plays together, then Sedbergh is the School for you.
