ICT
Reflecting modern development, ICT is integrated into many subjects of study across the curriculum as well as featuring as an independent subject in its own right.
The ICT department team are responsible for the IT provision around the campus,
including the installation of equipment and networks, maintenance, training
provision and user support across the School, as well as the teaching of ICT
in the curriculum.
ICT across the School
The fibre-based network extends across the whole campus and most teaching rooms
and all Houses have network access. Over half of the students have network sockets
in their own studies in the Houses. There is a continual development plan to
increase the range of facilities that are available.
We do not insist that students have their own computer at School but many do
have either a laptop or desktop machine. We will enable the connection of a
personal machine to the School's network which will also provide access
to the Internet. This is a screened and monitored service with appropriate safety
and security measures in place.
ICT facilities within the teaching areas are numerous:
- Three central suites which cater for full teaching sets
- Departmental clusters for local work (Art, Music, Library)
- Workstations and projectors in many subject rooms.
ICT curriculum
The formal teaching courses available include:
- Year 9: A general skills course designed to ensure that all pupils have
good general competency in a wide range of programs.
- Year 10: Two short courses provide specific skill training for either academic
or business use as well as the Edexcel IGCSE course for Years 10 and 11.
- AS and A2 to A-level: The OCR ICT course provides a solid base for the
use of ICT in both business and networking environments and for subsequent
study of ICT-related subjects in higher education.
