Chris Shines Through at South Lakeland Cross Contry Trials

Chris Shines Through at South Lakeland Cross Contry Trials

Tuesday 17th January, 2012

Sedbergh School hosted the South Lakeland District Cross-Country Trials on Tuesday for primary aged children. An astonishing 215 children took part in the two races, with 20 schools represented. Lucy Bailey was first SJS finisher in the girls race, coming in an impressive 9th. Christina Peart closely followed her in 14th, but it was the close proximity of all the SJS runners that stood out. Out of a field of 97, Maddy Harrison (26), Henrietta Cropper (30), Emily Foster (39), Jessica Bailey (40), Ella Seymour (42) and Emilia Page (43) all finished in the top half of the field. It was no surprise that the girls finished 4th team, behind Sedbergh Primary, Ghyllside and St. Mary’s. Chris Park-Johnson had a storming run in the boys race, coming home an excellent first against some very useful opposition. Chris has had some fine runs over the past couple of years, but this was the icing on the cake. Gabriel Connolly (5) continued his gradual improvement over the country, and Will Mullins (14) showed what a precocious talent he is for a Year 4 boy. Lewis Garnett (31), Geordan Moss (36), Harry Hampsey-Cook (40), Tristan Duncan (45) and, Kes Selby-Boddy (67) completed the SJS runners. The day finished perfectly when the boys were named winners of the team prize ahead of Staveley and Sedbergh Primary. The event ran smoothly, and everyone went home happy having witnessed so many young people enjoying themselves, running a tough cross-country course, in such a beautiful setting. RTG
