Flying Performance from Bird at Ampleforth
Thursday 12th January, 2012
SJS competed in the Ampleforth Cross-Country on Thursday on a lovely sunny day, but with tricky underfoot conditions. Chris Park-Johnson had another fine run to finish 5th in the U11 boys and was ably supported by Gabriel Connolly in 11th. Will Mullins showed real promise in 25th, as did Kes Selby-Boddy (38) and Lewis Garnett (42). The remaining team members of Harry Hampsey-Cook (40), Geordan Moss (51) and Tristan Duncan (52) all gave their best.
In spite of the absence of both Tilly Webster and Henrietta Cropper, the U11 girls performed brilliantly to finish second team. Lucy Bailey (6), Christina Peart (11), Jessica Bailey (12), Emily Foster (25), Emilia Page (29), Ella Seymour (28) and Eden McGuire (30) all ran superbly, but special mention must go to Year 3, Maddy Harrison, who ran her heart out to finish 13th.
The U13 girls continued their fine season finishing 3rd team. All the girls were exhausted at the end showing the effort they had put in. SJS finishers were Rebecca Holliday (5), Victoria Bailey (13), who was rewarded for the training she did over the Christmas holidays, Tabitha Holdsworth (15), Sally Bennett (20), Pollyanna Bell (25), Lara Birch (46), Amy Mahon (47) and Candice Dobson (51).
On paper the U13 boys looked strong, and they did not disappoint, romping home with the team prize. In form, Joe Bird, won the race at a canter, and Josh Hodge took the bronze with a strong run. The boys bunched superbly, with Richard Burns (4), Luke Worrall-Thomson (6), Harry Heathcote (10), Jack Sullivan (11), Will Taylor (15) and Daniel Holley (41). This was a top performance from the boys and bodes well for the remainder of the cross-country season.
