Sedbergh Prep School - From the Headmaster

Welcome to the website of Sedbergh Prep, a school with a very special atmosphere and sense of family. We believe passionately in the qualities that contribute to this sense of teamwork and belonging – endeavour, kindness, resilience, empathy. Nestled in a magnificent location amongst the fells and bordering the River Lune, Sedbergh Prep provides breathing space for its pupils, aged from 3 to 13, to enjoy childhood whilst providing a forward-looking and ambitious curriculum.

Stunning facilities and a team of dedicated staff combine to bring learning to life at our school. Teachers know the individual strengths and character of each child to ensure that every lesson challenges and engages them, opening the door to their potential. Happiness and well-being are the cornerstone of academic success and our children are given the confidence to believe in themselves and follow their dreams. Outside of the classroom, boys and girls throw their heart and soul into everything they do at Sedbergh Prep - from the theatre to the riding arena or rugby pitch, they will try something new and perhaps learn something about themselves in the process.

The boarding houses are alive with laughter and contribute so much to our community. Pupils can choose from a wide variety of boarding options at any stage that suits them and make the most of the opportunities that this provides. Under the careful eye of our House parents and in the company of their friends, children leave Sedbergh Prep as fine young men and women.

I hope that you enjoy the chance to explore the website and pick up a flavour of what makes our school so special. A visit in person will soon confirm all that you see here and more – I look forward to welcoming you.

Ethos & Aims

Sedbergh Prep School develops happy, confident children with a ‘can-do’ attitude; independent yet always with a sense of team before self. Through careful and sensitive teaching, we aim to foster a spirit of adventure, both inside and outside the classroom.

Our curriculum is ambitious and equips pupils with the necessary skills for future success, yet is delivered in a setting of timeless beauty where pupils have the space and time to enjoy their childhood.

Our Ways of the Wolf describe the core values that shape our behaviour: ambition, collaboration, courage, creativity, kindness, and responsibility.

A keen sense of community and heritage is shared throughout the School, both amongst boarders and day pupils. Pupils moving into the Senior School are made ready for the next chapter, though all our pupils leave their mark on the world, wherever that may be.
