VACANCY – Alumni Relations & Fundraising Internship

Sedbergh School Foundation are currently seeking to recruit a Alumni Relations and Fundraising Intern. The arrangements for this role would be as follows:

- 30 hours per week
- 6 month contract
- Salary – minimum wage according to age
- Four weeks annual leave (pro rata) by arrangement

VACANCY – Student or Gap Year Short Term Summer Jobs at Sedbergh and Casterton - Portering, Maintenance and Waiting Staff for Courses

We are looking for suitable candidates to assist the full time staff over the summer from 25th June onwards. These include:

Portering and Maintenance Teams:
- Movement of furniture and other equipment 
- Assist with a wide range of house moves for members of staff moving in and out of Sedbergh
- Movement of boarding house furniture in preparation for painting, replacing carpets and other elements of the Summer works programme
- Support to the course programme and events - setting up BBQs, gazebos, car parking etc.
- Any other jobs that may emerge which require lifting and shifting

Catering - Courses Programme - From 16th July
- Preparing dining areas for meal times
- Serving drinks, meals and snacks in Powell Hall, Queen's Hall and pavilions 
- Clearing tables, cleaning dining areas and operating dish washers

The roles are interchangeable but you can make a preference for one or the other if necessary. In both cases the essential characteristics are:
- The ability to work proactively, and without constant supervision
- A willing and cheerful disposition
- Initiative
- Organisational abilities
- Good communication skills
- Competent in the manual handling of loads, some training will be required and must be physically fit
- Have knowledge of understanding of Sedbergh
- Have a positive attitude and be willing to enhance his/her career by both in-house and external CPD.
- Good team player with the ability to deal with people in a polite and courteous manner
- A full driving licence is desirable but not essential

VACANCY – HOUSE CHEF

Sedbergh School are currently seeking a House Chef to work within the Boarding Houses in the School. Very much a valued and appreciated part of each team, the ideal candidate would be confident leading a team and overseeing the provision of varied and healthy meals for pupils and staff in the Boarding House with additional work at Sedbergh Summer School.

Working for Sedbergh School means working within the school community as part of a close-knit team within the Hospitality Department. We are looking to employ enthusiastic people who would like a varied working environment with the opportunity to develop their careers further through NVQ or other qualifications with a goal for some to develop as senior managers.

The proximity to the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the area around Morecambe Bay offers the outdoors enthusiast a wide range of walking, fishing, sailing, climbing, caving and other outdoor pursuits all within easy reach. For those with a desire to get away occasionally the M6 motorway and the West Coast railway are both a short distance away for travel North or South while other routes make West Yorkshire and the North East easy to reach.

VACANCY – TRAINEE CHEF (SEDBERGH & CASTERTON)

Sedbergh School is seeking enthusiastic people who would like to start their careers as chefs. You will work alongside the Senior House Chef who will be responsible for your training. For those who have just completed college courses this will be an opportunity to further develop skills in modern cuisine and gain further qualifications with the goal of progressing quickly to becoming a deputy chef. For apprentices, we are offering the opportunity to train at Kendal College on a day release basis, while gaining practical experience. 

The ideal candidates would soon gain sufficient experience to have the confidence to cook breakfasts or prepare tea without direct supervision, and have the ambition to extend their careers further by becoming a House Chef once they have achieved the required experience and qualifications.  

You will be expected to work one of the two main shift patterns (06:30 AM to 2:30 PM) producing breakfast and delivering lunch with the Senior House Chef or working a later shift (11am to 7 PM) covering lunch and producing tea. Ideally you would work one day over a weekend but some individual needs can be met.
