Fraser is crowned National Prep School Cross Country Champion

Fraser Sproul was crowned National Prep School Under 13 cross-country champion last Sunday, at Malvern College in Worcestershire. Fraser had already won the English School Fell Running Championships, back in October, but this was a much stiffer task, particularly as he was running against boys a year older than him. In a field of almost 300 runners, from 52 prep schools across the country, Fraser set his stall out early on in the race, pushing the pace from the front. The course was undulating, with a couple of long climbs, which enabled Fraser to stretch the opposition. However, it was only in the last quarter of the two mile course that Fraser was able to pull away completely, where he opened up a considerable gap, to win by almost 100 metres. Head of running at the prep school, Dick Gorst, said that, 'Fraser is a precocious talent, and the way he dominated the race from start to finish, showed maturity beyond his years. It was a privilege to be there.' The highlight for Fraser, afterwards, was shaking hands with David Beckham, whose son, Romeo, was running in the same race!
