On Tuesday 2nd March Sedbergh School held the annual ‘3 Peaks’ race. It is renown across the North of England for its scenic views and tiresome climbs. The competitors run 2.6 miles of fell including a 1515 ft ascent and summiting each of the three peaks including Winder (473m), Arant Haw (460m) and Crook (460m).
The atmosphere was unbelievable with 114 runners in total on a day with perfect, cold conditions with snow still visible on the peaks. With only 40% of the runners being from Sedbergh School it demonstrates how popular the race is with many travelling to relish the opportunity to come and take part in this challenging race. It was great to welcome Darren Kay and Morgan Donnelly who are both England International runners.
The record currently held by Simon Barnby (OS, SH) who ran it in 30 minutes 16 seconds was smashed this year by Morgan Donnolly who ran an exceptional race in 28 minutes 49 seconds. Donnelly from Borrowdale is currently a top British runner recently finishing 11th at the 2009 World Long Distance Championships.
Sam Fisher (W) was the first Sedbergh boy back coming in 5th place in a time of 31.47. Sedbergh School 1st Running VIII was pipped by 7 points in the overall team results by Helm Hill. The full results can be found below.
We look forward to the Downhill Championships Arant Haw tomorrow at 2.30.
