Scholarships & Bursaries

Sedbergh School has a number of different awards that are available for talented individuals in a number of fields. This page provides some basic information that describes the various types of awards, the specific requirements and information about the assessment process.

Explanation of Terms

Awards may be offered to candidates who display excellence in any of the following fields:

  • Academic
  • All-Rounder
  • Art
  • Design & Technology
  • Music
  • Drama
  • Sport

Awards are offered for entry at Years 9, 10 and 12; however awards may be offered at other times under special circumstances.

Candidates may enter for more than one of these awards. Candidates who consider their strength to be their breadth of talent may apply for an All-Rounder Award.

Scholarships

Scholarships are the highest awards, granted at the Headmaster’s discretion to those displaying excellence in the Scholarship assessments, and may be up to the value of half of the fees.

In exceptional circumstances a ‘major Scholarship’ may be awarded, which will be ‘index-linked’. Other major Scholarships, such as the Wavell-Wakefield, may also be granted at the Headmaster’s discretion.

Scholarships are not awarded to candidates applying for a Sport Award. See the section on Awards below.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions may be awarded to candidates who are close to Scholarship level.

Awards

Candidates applying for a Sport Award, those displaying excellence in the assessments, may receive up to the value of half of the fees.

Bursaries

All Scholarships, Exhibitions and Awards for entry to Sedbergh School at 13 years and above can be supplemented by a Bursary Award, based upon the financial circumstances of the candidate’s parents. Bursaries are not part of the Scholarship process but can be applied for by contacting the Bursar’s office. See separate page for further information.

    End: After Carol Service Weds 15th December 4.00pm. Those travelling on long haul are advised to travel on the 16th
