Music Scholarships
Available for entry into Years 9, 10 and 12
Scholarships and Exhibitions are awarded to those displaying musical excellence. Music Scholars are usually offered one period of free tuition per week in two instruments. Music Exhibitioners are usually offered one period of free tuition per week in one instrument.
The standard of performance expected is Grade V of the Associated Board for younger candidates, although a higher standard is expected for those candidates at Sixth Form entry level. However, evidence of talent and promise of development is of more importance than actual examinations passed.
- Original composition may be offered and should be submitted in advance
- Candidates may offer a second instrument of a lesser standard
- Singing may be offered and candidates should prepare and sing one song; they will also be asked to sing at sight
- Non-specialist singers are encouraged to offer singing and should bring one song
The practical examination will last approximately 45 minutes and will comprise:
- The performance of two contrasting pieces on each instrument, or the voice for specialist singers
- A sight reading test
- Aural tests, to include sight singing
- Interview
