A muddy course at Giggleswick was in stark contrast to the frozen conditions of the day before for the annual Catteral Shield Cross Country Competition. Sedbergh runners adapted to the conditions with aplomb. The day got off to a great start with Chris Park-Johnson continuing his form from Tuesday to finish 2nd in a large U11 field. He was ably supported by Gabriel Connolly (10), Will Mullins (15), Jack Roper (34) and Harry Hampsey-Cook (50). They thoroughly deserved their 2nd place in the team competition.
The U11 girls team took to the start next, and got stuck in and kept going throughout. Lucy Bailey (13) led the way, with Christina Peart (28), Jessica Bailey (29), Maddy Harrison (34) and Henrietta Cropper (37).
The Under 13 girls were unlucky not to make the top 3 teams due to some plucky performances. Rebecca Holliday (6) again led the way, and the girls bunched well with Tabitha Holdsworth (16), Victoria Bailey (19), Sally Bennett (23) and Pollyanna Bell (29).
Joe Bird continued his rich vain of form, in the Under 13 boys, to come home in first place. Josh Hodge (4), Harry Heathcote (6), Richard Burns (7) and Luke Worrall-Thomson (10) showed what a talented bunch of runners they are, and it was no surprise when they won the team prize comfortably. To have all 5 runners in the top 10 is a fantastic achievement. RTG
