The Foundation

Established in 2001 to provide independent financial support for the School, the Foundation has raised over £10m. Thanks to contributions from alumni, parents, friends of the School, grant making bodies and charitable trusts it has helped the School to realise the following major projects and supported many other academic and sporting initiatives.

FOUNDATION INCOME

NEW FOUNDATION DIRECTOR

Isabella Bennett started at the beginning of term as the new Foundation Director. With a history of successful fundraising in the charity and education sectors Isabella will bring a great deal of experience to the role. This is an exciting time at Sedbergh with 560 girls and boys which is a record numbers of pupils in the senior school, the opening of the Hirst Centre, the new school in China and a full calendar of sporting and cultural events. The Governors are currently reviewing the School’s five year strategy towards the 500th Anniversary and will undoubtedly be calling on the Foundation to support some of their ambitions for the School . The need for scholarships and bursaries will never go away so Isabella will be looking at the Roger Lupton Scholarship programme to see how this can be expanded and developed to provide more affordable opportunities for boys and girls to get a Sedbergh education.

ROGER LUPTON SCHOLARSHIPS

The Foundation will continue to raise funds for the Roger Lupton Scholarships which provide a Sedbergh education to truly deserving youngsters.

“These are exciting times at Sedbergh and it is thanks to the generosity of the donors that so many of the improvements to the school have been delivered. I hope the Sedbergh community will continue to support what we know to be the best boarding school in the north of England”

(Jeremy Bedford (H 81-86): Foundation Chairman)

HOW TO SUPPORT

The Foundation is grateful for support for both specific Appeals as well as for ‘unrestricted’ donations which can be particularly valuable as they allow the Foundation to direct contributions to the area of greatest need at any one time.

Donations can be made via our secure online site as one off or regular monthly, quarterly or annual gifts. Gifts by cheque, credit card and BACS transfer can also be made by downloading a Donation Form. Other options include the donation of shares or other assets >>> and payroll giving. A gift to the Foundation can also be included in the text of a will or as a simple codicil. Many supporters have chosen this route and have become members of our growing 1525 Society.
