ROGER LUPTON SCHOLARSHIPS
This scheme was launched in June 2011 with the aim of offering a life changing experience to genuinely deserving youngsters. To achieve this objective Sedbergh School combined forces with The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation >>> which, along with their partner charities, local authorities and state day schools, actively search for potential pupils from the most disadvantaged social groups with a joint family income of less than £15,000. After selection these youngsters are assessed for their ability to thrive in a boarding school environment, then carefully prepared and finally matched to the most appropriate school. Critically, support for the pupil and his/her family from both SpringBoard and the other partner organisations is maintained throughout and beyond the school experience. This formula has been proven to deliver real and positive results for the pupil, the school and the home community.
The Roger Lupton Scholarships Appeal has already raised £700,000 and supported the education of 9 pupils. Our target now is to fund two new Roger Lupton Scholarships each year supported by funding from The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation. The target of £80,000 pa, although ambitious, may be possible if we continue to get the support we have enjoyed since 2011. Our ultimate aim is to build an endowment to enable us to fund these 100% awards in perpetuity.
If you are in a position to support this scheme, regular or one off donations can be made online >>> or by downloading a donation form >>>
Some supporters have found the donation of shares a particularly tax efficient way of donating to the endowment fund. Should you be interested in this option, further information on how to donate shares and other assets to charity can be found here >>>
THE CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE 2016
In 2016, once again, we were accepted by ‘The Big Give Christmas Challenge’, the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign.
This was a novel online fundraising event taking place over 72 hours from 29 November until 2 December. During these hours every donation made to the Roger Lupton Scholarship programme was doubled.
Thanks to your support we exceeded our target of £15,000 to reach a total of £18,978.75 which will be enough to fund a Roger Lupton Scholar for a year with the support of the SpringBoard Bursary Foundation. We – but particularly the scholar - are very grateful to everyone who generously supported this Appeal.
A number of the Houses have used the opportunity of an Anniversary celebration to launch a House Appeal to support a Roger Lupton Scholarship.
