CRICKET TOUR TO BARBADOS

A party of 14 boys travelled to Barbados to take part in the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools’ Festival.

The draw saw us pitted against the 3 top sides in Barbados in the first week but we got off to a good start with a last ball win against Foundation School who were the overall winners last time we played in the Festival. We nearly let a good position slip but with 2 needed to win off the last ball Nathan Wyman held his nerve and struck a boundary to get us off to a good start.

In the following game we game up against eventual winners St. Leonards but things didn’t go our way and we fell short of our 222 run target. We went through the remainder of the tournament unbeaten but a rained off game, unfortunately, meant that we just missed out on qualification for the semi-finals.

We did, however, beat Dominica Combined schools in our play-off game to finish 5th overall (despite winning 6 out of 7 games in the Festival). On field highlights included Max Silvester’s 94 against Vishnu Boys’ HS, Stephen Croft’s 5 for 20 against Solihull and his 3 consecutive 6’s against Fatima and Alex Mullins’ excellent 37 not out off 25 balls to see us to victory against Isolation Cavaliers.

Away from the cricket the boys enjoyed sampling the joys of the beach, catamaran trips, swimming with turtles, watersports and the Bajan culture and a memorable experience was had by all.

Congratulations should go to Max Silvester and Stephen Croft who were selected to play in the tournament all-stars game. The following end of tour awards were made:

Best batsman: Max Silvester

Best Bowler: Sam Barrett

Best tourist: Will Topham

Best individual performance: Alex Mullins v Isolation Cavaliers
