ART AND GRAPHICS GCSE GROUPS GET INSPIRED AT LIVERPOOL DOCKS AND MUSEUMS

A group of GCSE Art and Graphics pupils enjoyed a visit to Liverpool last week, visiting the Walker Art Gallery and the Tate as part of exam preparation.

The pupils observed the detail, the intensity of colour and the draughtsmanship of the Chinese Archway and were visibly inspired as they looked at the great masters’ work on show at the Walker Art Gallery.

At Liverpool Tate, pupils were engaged in their responses to the Tracey Emin and William Blake: In Focus exhibition; with Emin’s ‘My Bed’ installation generating significant intrigue.

Whilst the Art pupils where busy in the Tate, graphics pupils were engrossed in the World Museum, looking at collections from across the continents. They also visited some shops, looking at packaging design, such as Lush cosmetics.

Pupils were given an opportunity to blow off the cobwebs and they enjoyed a ferry trip accompanied by the dull sounds of Gerry and the Pacemakers playing in the background! They photographed the Liverpool and Wirral skylines whilst they cruised along the River Mersey, and then enjoyed lunch at Pizza Express, with superb views across the Albert Dock.

Head of Art Laura Bolton said: “We all enjoyed an inspiring and motivated day; we even managed to make it back for Prep. We will look forward to seeing the outcomes of their projects in April. Watch this space!”

Gigi Seetoo, Year 11, said: “The trip to Liverpool was culturally spectacular; so useful and inspiring for the GCSE exam project; I particularly enjoyed our visit to the Tate going on the ferry across the River Mersey and the trip to China Town was much needed!”
