JAMES’S TENNIS SUCCESS CONTINUES

Congratulation to current Sedbergh School pupil James Griffin and all of the Cumbrian Boys Tennis Team whom have been competing in Nottingham at the LTA 14U County Cup National Finals 18th – 20th May.

The Cumbrian Boys beat South of Scotland, Durham & Cleveland and Lancashire two weeks ago to qualify for the finals for the first time in Cumbria’s history and didn’t disappoint over the weekend.

In their round robin group they beat Kent 4 – 3, Yorkshire 4 – 2 and narrowly lost to Avon 4 – 2. Unfortunately Cumbria only managed to come 3rd with a 3 way tie at the top of the group but Cumbria were one rubber short so Kent progressed to the National Final and Cumbria were in a 5th/6th play off with Middlesex whom they duly dispatched 4 – 2.

To put the boys achievements into perspective Cumbria have never previously qualified for the National Finals, have never beaten Lancashire or Yorkshire and actually won three of their four matches at the National Finals and even beat one of the finalists.

James won all 4 of his singles matches beating three National Level players 6/1 4/6 6/1 (Avon), 6/1 6/2 (Kent GB player), 6/3 6/0 (Yorkshire) & 6/2 6/0 (Middlesex) playing the best tennis of his life and also won two doubles rubbers.

The team was captained by Sedbergh School’s Head Coach Jon Griffin.
