Sedbergh School was founded in 1525 by Dr Roger Lupton, Provost of Eton, and endowed by him with lands connected with a chantry, in some of the most beautiful scenery in the north of England. Since then it has established an outstanding reputation for academic, sporting and artistic success, while preparing exceptional young people for life.
"Sedbergh has faced up to the demands of the 21st Century but managed to retain traditional values and ethos. Its increasing numbers indicate parents very much approve. It rightly retains its formidable reputation on the sports field but away from it, provides a happy and caring environment for all its pupils regardless of ability or sports prowes"
The Good Schools Guide
One of Sedbergh's most welcome developments, in response to strong demand, was the establishment of Sedbergh Junior School, in 2002. This was initially based in Bentham, until it joined the Sedbergh campus in January 2009. A new Pre-Prep department was added at this time. Today, SJS offers day, weekly, full and flexi- boarding places for boys and girls aged 8-13, and day school for boys and girls aged 4-7.
