welcome from the principal

Sedbergh School educates boys and girls from age 13-19. It is located on the boundary between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks in stunningly beautiful landscape. Our location enhances our education and provides a healthy environment for young minds and bodies.

All our pupils are full, seven-day-a-week boarding pupils, this is very unusual in Britain. It means that all our pupils live and share their working and social lives together. Friendships are quickly established and the school is busy throughout the day and at weekends. Crucially, the time we have with our pupils enables us to develop them to their fullest potential whether it be through extra lessons and seminars or by running academic societies, music ensembles and a multitude of sporting opportunities.

We are proud of our academic results and particularly those gained by our international pupils. Much of this is due to the high quality of teaching and pupils benefit from the fact that numerous teachers have specialist qualifications in teaching international pupils. This enables them to teach in the most effective way for pupils who’s first language is not English.

Our pupils will learn much more than their academic lessons. Our boarding education provides a social experience which equips pupils to interact with the widest range of people and different nationalities when they reach university or start work. Our extra-curricular activities will stimulate life-long interests to balance the rigours of their working lives and our sports programme promotes healthy lifestyles as well and mental and physical strength.

Pupils leave Sedbergh with the highest academic qualifications and as resilient, well-developed young men and women. We are proud of all they achieve.
