Be a Star This Christmas: Salvation Army Present Appeal

This Christmas, Sedbergh Prep School is supporting the Kendal Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal. Families are invited to get involved by adding an extra Christmas present to their shopping list. This will be in place of the shoebox appeal.

The Salvation Army in Kendal is focused on meeting a local area’s need for food and toy parcels this Christmas. Currently there are 67 families, that they know of, that qualify for free school meals at the local primary school, significantly higher than the national average. Considerably more families are struggling to make ends meet, and the second lockdown is adding to the difficulties being faced.

For the Christmas present appeal, people are asked to donate gifts for children from birth through to 18. (They generally cater for up to 16 years but if there is an older sibling within a family, they will not leave them out). Toys should be left unwrapped so the presents can be matched to the children.

Present ideas:

0-3 years:  dolls, teddy bears, cot mobiles, baby clothes, bath toys, CDs of suitable music and nursery rhymes, puzzles

3-5 years: dolls and action figures, cars, lorries, DVDs and CDs (music and nursery rhymes), colouring sets, pencils, crayons, books, puzzles

5-9 years: educational games & toys, stationery (colouring sets, pencils, crayons, school sets), CDs & family friendly DVDs, books, puzzles, wordsearch, crosswords

9-12 years: games and toys, stationery, DVDs, books, t-shirts, hair accessories, gloves, scarves, hats

13-16+ years: books, make-up and toiletries (please try to ensure non-allergic ingredients if possible), gloves, scarves, hats, t-shirts, hair accessories and gift vouchers

Over the years, millions of children and young people have benefited from gifts donated to The Salvation Army. By donating a gift to the Christmas Present Appeal we can make a real difference in someone’s life this Christmas. Thank you in advance for your support.

Donated gifts must be received in School by Monday 30th November. They can be delivered in the following ways:

  • Brought in by children and taken to Mr Gorst’s classroom
  • Dropped off with the member of staff in the Sports Hall at pick up (Monday to Saturday)
  • Boarders can bring these back after Exeat and give them to the House staff, who will deliver them to the appropriate place

In additional support of this worthwhile charity, a number of Sedbergh Prep staff are going to undertake a 50 mile virtual bike ride on Sunday 20th December to raise money for the Salvation Army. If you would like to sponsor the staff, please follow this link.
