HOUSE POETRY RECITING COMPETITION, MARCH 2017

The House Poetry Reciting Competition culminated in a highly entertaining and memorable Final on Friday afternoon which took place in front of the whole School in the Tom Penny Theatre.

In the early stages of the competition, every pupil in the School from Years 1-8 competed in Round One during which they recited a poem to their English classes and scored valuable points for their Houses. The best individual performances then competed in the Semi-Final and twenty eight children were successful in securing their places in the Final which was judged by Mrs Janet Hurst, our very own Drama and LAMDA teacher, as well as Mr Patrick Relph. Patrick left Sedbergh School in 2010 and is now a professional Opera Singer based in Glasgow.

After forty minutes of engaging and humorous recitals, as well as a touching performance given by our courageous Reception Class, Patrick Relph announced the judges’ verdicts. Many congratulations go to Daisy Hoskin who won the Junior Section, Poppy Carnochan who was victorious in the Middle School section and Rosie Bishop who was crowned champion of the Senior Section.

Furthermore, after all the scores were added together from Round 1, the Semi-Final and the Final, Wenning House was announced as the overall winner of this inaugural House Poetry Reciting Competition.
