Mr Newman’s Friday E-ssembly: 26 February 2021
I am sure you will have shared my same sense of relief that children’s education has been prioritised in our release from lockdown and that we will be able to re-open for all age groups on 8th March. Right off the bat, can I please direct your attention to this letter, which contains a great deal of information, especially with regard to testing for pupils in Years 7 and 8. Please read it carefully and save somewhere you can easily refer to it. This was also sent out by email this morning, to all parents.
We will be doing everything in our power to make the last few weeks of the Lent Term as action-packed as we can, both in the classroom and outside. The children have been denied much of what they should normally enjoy and we will be prioritising both their wellbeing and the identification of any gaps in learning. As always, their happiness and their academic progress go hand in hand.
I have some staff news to announce this week and I am delighted to let you know that Miranda Campbell is expecting the birth of her first baby this summer holiday. I know you will agree that she will be an outstanding mum and we couldn’t be happier for her and Andrew. We have interviewed candidates for her maternity cover yesterday and will be in a position to confirm our appointment next week.
From our return on Monday 8th March, Kirsty Stock will begin her new role as Prep School Secretary, manning the front office and the phones until lunchtime. Kirsty knows the School well, having done great service on the marketing team in previous years. It is a timely reminder for parents to therefore use 015242 79200 and email@example.com as their first contact.
Ben Hammonds has made a big impact on the Prep School since his arrival as Head of Department for DTE and Computer Science. The success and popularity of these subjects owes a great deal to his expertise and passion. Ben will be moving on to Harrow International, Bangkok, at the end of this year for a new adventure and a return to senior school teaching. The process of finding his replacement has already commenced and it is testimony to Ben’s legacy that I am sure the post will prove very attractive to a strong field. We wish Ben and his young family the very best of luck!
The theme of this week’s E-ssembly is that of collaboration and so it seems another apt opportunity to thank you and the staff for your continued support and I look forward with confidence and optimism to the remainder of the academic year, knowing that our sense of ‘team’ has remained stronger than ever.
Have a great weekend
