Sedbergh Prep Welcomes South Lakes Primary Schools for Cross Country Trials

Last week, Sedbergh Prep School welcomed over 400 children from over 30 schools in the local area for the South Lakes District Cross Country Trials. Children aged between 8 – 11 tackled the challenging course in terrific spirit, and were ably cheered on and supported by schools’ staff and parents which created a wonderful atmosphere throughout the course.

Mr Will Newman, Headmaster of Sedbergh Prep School, said; “Running is very much in the DNA of Sedbergh School and so it was a delight to kick off 2022 with such a well-attended and competitive event. On a perfect day and on a picturesque, but challenging course, we saw nearly 500 competitors give it their very best effort – regardless of where they may have finished, they crossed the line with a sense of real achievement and cheered on by their school mates.”

Mr Newman has shared his appreciation saying; “A big thank you to all the staff involved in setting up and running such a large event, and also to the Sedbergh Prep Year 8 pupils who did such a wonderful job of leading each race as well as supporting those finding it more challenging.”

Runners who crossed the finish line in the top 16 secured their place at the County Cross Country Championships at Hunter Hall school in Penrith, on Wednesday 26 January, who are hosting the event for the second time.
