Hockey County Finals
The 1st team girls competed at the county finals on Thursday. They had previously won the Regional section to progress to this stage. The first game was against Nelson Tomlinson, with some simple mistakes a lacking emphasis the girls struggled to score in the first half. However, once they went back out, they found their stride. Moving the ball around well, finding Alice Dunning in the D, who slotted the ball quickly into the goal. This didn’t stop here as Sedbergh found themselves on the attack again, sending another one in. Resulting in a 2-0 win with 3 points on the table.
The next game was against KKS who we have previously met at Regionals. Knowing we would have to work hard to beat them again, the girls motivation was high. The opposition didn’t make it easy for us, however Sedbergh worked the ball well and found the back of the net, securing a 1-0 win with 6 points on the board.
The final game was against Austin Friars. As they were the closest to us in the table we knew it would be tough. Sedbergh went out hard, holding the majority of possession well. With many shots on target the oppositions goalie made some great saves. Unable to get on the rebounds quick enough, the girls had to reset. However, in true Sedbergh spirit the girls did not give in, eventually finding the goal. The story of the game was pretty similar for the second half. Unfortunately with minutes to go we made some costly mistakes which allowed Austin Friars to sneak a goal in. 1-1 draw to finish, 7 points on the table. Having won two and drawn one, Sedbergh finished 2 point clear and top of the table making them County Champions. They will now progress to North West Finals in the new year.
