Thank you for your interest in Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School, below you will find more information about our admissions process.

We know that choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you can make and in person visits are an integral part of this process. Individual tours of Sedbergh Prep are available during term time or please sign up to our next Open Mornings on 29th & 30th September by clicking here.

We do take in-year applications to join the School, however these are subject to available places in the applicable year group.

Admission Process

Pupils can start at the Prep School from the term that they turn 3 through to 13. Applications are accepted throughout the year, subject to available places in the applicable year group.

The admissions process for Sedbergh Prep School is outlined below.

Visit Sedbergh Prep: Individual visits to the School can be arranged with our Admissions Team. Open Days are held on a regular basis, for more information and to register your interest in attending, please click here.
Register Your Child/ren: Registration forms are available from the Admissions Team; the registration fee is £125.00 per child (non-refundable). A copy of your child/ren’s most recent School Report is also required.
Prep School Taster: Inviting registered child/ren to visit the school for a day or overnight visit form an important part of our admissions process. Children joining in Year 7 or above may be asked to take online tests in English and maths to assist with setting.
Acceptance: Offer letter issued and acceptance form returned, along with payment of the appropriate acceptance deposit (refundable).
Scholarships and Senior School Transition: 11+ Scholarships are available to children joining Year 7 and assessments for this take place in the preceding academic year. Senior School Boarding House place selection takes place in Year 7 for Sedbergh Prep School pupils and guarantees a Year 9 place, as there are currently waiting lists to join at this age.

Scholarship Awards

A limited number of Scholarship Awards are available for talented boys and girls entering the Preparatory School, at age 11 i.e. as they transition between Year 6 and 7. These are available in the following categories:

ASSESSMENT DAYS

The next assessment for Scholarship Awards will take place in January 2024, for a September 2024 entry. If you are interested in your child being assessed for an 11+ Scholarship, please contact our Admissions Team to discuss this further.

The assessments are designed as an information gathering process for us as a School. We aim for the children attending to enjoy themselves without experiencing any undue pressure or anxiety.

To apply for a Scholarship Award, please note that a child must complete a School registration form alongside the Scholarship application form, both of which are available on the 11+ Scholarships information page, and return these to the Admissions Team at admissions@sedberghprep.org

Bursaries & Concessions

Sedbergh Prep School welcomes discussions with families who might, under ordinary circumstances, not consider Sedbergh for their child, for financial reasons. We are committed to widening access by enabling children, who would not otherwise be able, to join the School, and to allow children to remain in the event of an unforeseen changes in a family’s financial situation.

Having already contacted the Registrar, and registered your child’s application to Sedbergh, you are invited to contact Mr Tony Roberts, Bursar (Compliance), on +44 (0) 7967 326458 or at tr@sedberghschool.org in the first instance, for a discussion regarding individual circumstances and further guidance. All discussions will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

A range of concessions may be available depending on each family's circumstances and these are outlined below. These will be considered alongside any current or pending awards, means-tested bursaries and scholarships, and may be combined into one level of support.
