At every level, we strive to make our pupils independent learners, well-prepared for the next stage in their development.
Our unique curriculum facilitates opportunities for the children to discover, apply and communicate what they have learned at every step. It is more than a list of content to be memorised; it is a scheme of work that promotes active engagement, creativity and independent learning in the classroom. This will prepare pupils for the demands of the modern workplace and the challenges that they will face in later life.
Years 7 and 8, pupils work towards our SPACE profile (Sedbergh Prep – Academic, Community, Extra-Curricular) which replaces the Common Entrance exams. Alongside a final attainment grade for each subject area, which is determined by unit tests and other, more frequent, means of assessment, each child's notable achievements, roles of responsibility and effort in non-academic subjects combine to create an individual SPACE Profile. We believe that this profile is a far more accurate representation of each pupils’ particular abilities, interests and dispositions.
Together, it embodies the Sedbergh Prep School aim - to bring out the best in every child and develop young people who are resilient, hardworking, friendly, respectful and who approach challenges with a 'give it a go and try your best' attitude.
