Sedbergh Prep School - Equestrian

Overview

Our stables are situated within the school grounds and our riding facilities include a 40m by 20m outdoor arena, a jumping paddock with cross country and show jumps and 25 acres of land, used for field-based tuition and trekking routes. Close by, we have access to a choice of bridleways offering excellent hacking opportunities for more experienced riders. All riding and pony care activities are supervised by British Horse Society qualified staff, who are committed to developing the skills of our pupils, in a safe and enjoyable environment.

The stables welcome riders of all abilities to experience many aspects of horsemanship. Pupils can have structured, weekly riding lessons and are also invited to attend stable management and activity sessions. As an official Pony Club Centre, the children are encouraged to work towards achievement badges and certificates. There are many proud moments sharing achievements in assembly with their peers.

Whilst we are aware that some pupils will always be happy riding their pony just once a week, we also know, that Sedbergh pupils can be determined and driven. Sedbergh Equestrian are equipped to guide the ambitious rider from their first wobbly trot around the school arena, to one day representing their school at an NSEA competition.

For pony/horse owners, Sedbergh Prep offers a flexible livery service to suit all types of rider, from leisure riders to serious competitors and team members. Riders keeping their pony at the school facility have the opportunity to ride and spend quality time with their equine friend, within the school week. The close proximity of the facility enables the children to get maximum benefits from having their pony or horse at school. Our qualified staff are available to offer support and training where required, giving peace of mind to both parents and riders.

Children without their own pony, can experience pony ownership on a more casual basis by joining our loan scheme. This helps children and parents that are thinking of venturing into buying a pony, an opportunity to test the water. Those on the loan scheme are fully supported with all practicalities, giving them confidence to develop the skills required for full-time ownership.
