CCF (RAF) CADETS TAKE TO THE AIR

CCF (RAF) Cadets took to the air on 6th June 2014. Leaving Sedbergh at 0615, 12 bleary-eyed cadets accompanied by Flt Lt Astin and Plt Off McVoy were met by Flt Lt Brownridge from AEF 11 at RAF Leeming for a prompt 8am start.

A very important safety briefing on parachute use in case of having to exit the aircraft soon woke the cadets up and after each cadet had demonstrated his or her understanding of procedure (“JUMP, JUMP”)…they were kitted up into flight suits and escorted to their plane.

The Grob Tutor, with a cruise speed of over 140 mph, was first seen by cadets when they visited the base last term but it was time to put the classroom theory (delivered by newly appointed Civilian Instructor Marc Burrow), into practice.

Cadets had a chance to have control of the aircraft and each cadet had a good 30 minute or so flight with an experienced pilot by their side guiding them through every manoeuvre.

The next series of flights for the RAF Cadets will be on the 19th June.
