ROUNDERS

1st IX Rounders v Giggleswick  Lost 45- 34 ½
Sedbergh came up against a polished Giggleswick side on Wednesday, who took advantage of playing all out, scoring 21 ½ rounders in the first innings. Sedbergh rose to the challenge though and secured 20 ½ rounders in their innings, with a spectacular performance from Hattie Duxbury and Tini Peart who were the last batsmen left.

Peart then faced a strong Giggleswick field alone, which did not faze her, cracking another 5 rounders to close the first innings. Despite much more tactical fielding from Sedbergh in the second innings, with excellent catches from Nelstrop and epic returns from Roxy Waller in deep field, Giggleswick were in for yet another high scoring innings.

A solid effort from brown to catch up, though not quite enough to tighten the gap. A well-fought game nonetheless!  EH

2nd IX Rounders v Giggleswick Won 16-12
The second senior rounders team secured their second victory of the week beating Giggleswick 16 rounders to 12. Sedbergh worked as an efficient unit communicating well. Sedbergh were the stronger in the first innings scoring 9 ½ .

Giggleswick gelled in the 2nd innings making it competitive. Top scorer was Lucy Bailey with 5 rounders. Captain Olivia Murray led by example securing a double out. HLR

Senior Tennis v St Peters
1st VI – Won 6-3
An amazing 6-3 win for the 1st VI.  After the first round we were 1-2 down having played our 2nd pair against their 1sts, our 3rd pair against their 2nds & our 1st pair against their 3rds. In the second round each couple played their respective number & Alice & Lotte had a fantastic match to win 6-4 against the number 1 pair.

Julia & Josie also won against the 3rd pair meaning the score was 3-3 going into the final round. Sedbergh were dominant and all 3 couples won with 2nd couple Imo & Georgie beating their 3rd pair & our 3rd couple Julia & Josie having the set of the day to beat St Peters no 1 couple in a tie-break.
I witnessed some of the best rallies that I have seen in school girl tennis & the match was played in a fantastic spirit. Well done!  HJC

2nd VI – Lost 8-1
The score does not reflect the standard of tennis of the 2nd VI and many of the games went to deuce with just the final points not going our way – work to do on closing out a game.

Izzy and Imo lost their first two matches but learnt from their mistakes and secured a good final match result of 6-4.  Ruby and Eliza plus Annabel and Olivia played excellent matches against the top couples but could not repeat the performances against their own pairs.

Some excellent passages of play by all couples in a keenly fought afternoon of tennis.  LS

3rd VI – Lost 5-4
A narrow loss for our 3rd VI, even all the way and all just relying on the final game.  All three Sedbergh couples beat the St Peters final pair and just another couple of rubbers would have taken the match, Rosie and Savannah secured an outstanding win against the first St Peters pair 6-4 but struggled to beat their own pairing.

A competitive afternoon of tennis with some excellent shots played and a good first outing for the senior tennis teams.  LS

NETBALL

Congratulations to Chess Cooke who represented Cheshire Netball in an U16 set of fixtures in Manchester at the weekend.  Chess was selected as a defender for the Cheshire team and contributed to wins against all opposition, well done.
