GIRLS’ SPORTS REPORTS 20/10/14

14S  – COUNTY HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS

A currently unbeaten U14s side became County Champions with emphatic wins over QES, Nelson Tomlinson and Trinity. This free-scoring side got off to the perfect start with a 5-0 win vs Nelson Tomlinson, Jemima, Issy and Anna all getting goals.

Next up was QES notoriously a strong hockey school and a good side on paper, again Sedbergh’s front 5 were way too much to handle and eventually ran out 6-0 winners, a fine display against a good side.

With qualification to North West guaranteed the 14s looked to finish on a high and did so with another 6-0 win vs Trinity. This side has all the potential to qualify from North West and go through to North however harder tests will come against sides with stronger players! County Champions with 17 goals scored and 0 conceded.  MWS

16S – COUNTY HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS

A promising under 15s side topped up with experienced 16s looked to make the most of home advantage of the county final being played at Casterton. The opposition were Austin Friars, QES and Cockermouth. Sedbergh started brilliantly beating Cockermouth 3-0 with Josie, Chezza and Julia doing the damage!

Austin Friars were next and had also started with a win, the standard didn’t disappoint! Another 3-0 win meant qualification was achieved but this side had a point to prove against QES who had beaten them last year.

Eliza Nelstrop and Georgina Boyd-Moss were absolutely superb as the team ran riot in 20 minutes to win again by the same scoreline 3-0, the final goal scored by Issy Chamberlain would have won goal of the month hands down if there was such an award, a reverse stick strike from the end of the D and a foot inside the baseline, simply sensational for a player of her age!

Another team as County Champions and all 3 age groups through to North West!   MWS

2ND NETBALL V STOCKPORT GRAMMAR – WON 18-8

Sedbergh started strongly being 5-1 up after the 1st quarter and 12-1 at half-time. Good play in the shooting circle by Captain Steph Gardner at GS & Emily Edwards at GA. Equally good defensive work from Georgia Owen at GD & Emily Warren-Barrett at GK.

A switch at half-time with Ella Dennison replacing Sophie Webber at WD and the other team switched their best player into attack, pulling the game back to 14-6 before we pulled away to an 18-8 victory with good feeding of the circle from Fern Nuttall at centre & Ellie Moseley at WA.

A physical game where we shot much better than the opposition. A good team effort. Best player voted by the opposition was Emily Edwards.

U15 SOUTH LAKES NETBALL TOURNAMENT – CHAMPIONS

An outstanding display from this talented year group who scored into the hundreds and conceded single figures in this area tournament.  Excellent shooting and circle play by Amy Lewin, Lexi Whitfield and Georgina Turner coupled with a strong defensive display from Georgina Boyd-Moss, Sarah Long and Ella Walsh.

Centre court showed discipline in their decision making with Grace Sykes, Lucy Preston and Julia Haywood providing plenty ball for the shooters showing flair and creativity.  A really excellent display from this team who should be congratulated on their ‘never stop working’ attitude.  Great job girls!  LS
