OUTSTANDING START TO SEASON FOR SEDBERGH’S FIRST XV

The talented rugby players in Sedbergh’s first XV have celebrated an unbeaten start to the season, having played some thrilling rugby against a range of competitive opponents.

Highlights have included a 36-7 victory at home over a strong Kirkham Grammar School side, as well as away victories at Whitgift, RGS Newcastle and Denstone.

Some Sedbergh pupils have also been called up for international duty. Michael Cooke was part of an Ireland under-18 side that beat their Italian counterparts 31-12, while Tom Curtis, Will Haydon-Wood and Harry Hill were all invited to the England under-18 training camp. Diego Warnken represented Chile at the South American under-18 Sevens tournament, playing against Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

Sedbergh’s Director of Rugby Simon Mulholland was delighted with the start to the season. Speaking of the Kirkham match, he said, ‘Our attacking play and execution as a team in this match was simply outstanding, especially in the second half where we scored 29 unanswered points in an impressive 25-minute spell.

‘As a Sedbergh’s first XV we are now very much focussing on the huge challenges to come as we enter an extremely exciting finish to the season where we take on our traditional rivals and some of the best opposition schools in the Country.’
