Sedbergh School hosted a pre-season rugby festival last weekend, a triangular event involving Sedbergh Prep School, RGS Newcastle and Aysgarth.
The teams showed great promise and put their skills and techniques into practice in conditioned games on Sedbergh’s famous Buskholme pitches, which still remains one of the favourite venues for many Old Sedberghians playing at international level or now retired.
Jason Duffy, Sedbergh School Commercial Development coach and England U16 Development Coach, said: “All boys were extremely committed and showed that all the hard work in pre—season will stand them in good stead with their opening fixture of the season.
The main objective for the afternoon was to give as many boys from Under 11s, 12s and 13s some match practice before their seasons commence this week. All three schools found the afternoon to be of great value and we wish them well with the upcoming fixtures. We hope to see them for a repeat festival next season.”
James Doherty, Head of Rugby at Sedbergh Prep School and Head Coach at Wharfedale RFC said: “I would just like to say a huge thank you to the senior school for hosting the event and to Aysgarth and RGS Newcastle for making the effort to come across to Sedbergh.
I am sure we would all agree that it was fantastic to see that amount of boys from our respected schools out enjoying the game they love with no pressure on the end result.
It is a fantastic idea to run a pre-season festival where the boys and coaches can fine tune their tactics and techniques in a more relaxed environment. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing everybody back at next seasons festival.”
