Robert Stevenson (SH U6) delivered a wonderful School of Athens (pupil led sixth form academic society) lecture on Friday evening in the School Library. The title “The Illegitimate State,” gave no real indication as to the direction that Rob would take us in.
We journeyed through Human Nature and the need for structure, although we were also told about the value of anarchy. Rob then took us on a tour through the different types of leadership and structure that we have developed through time.
Rob came to the conclusion that education was the key factor in changes over the legitimacy of a democratically elected state. Rob dealt with the questions exceptionally well.
