SEDBERGH EQUESTRIAN TEAM SUCCESS AT NSEA ARENA EVENTING

On Sunday 29th May the Sedbergh Equestrian team competed in the NSEA Arena Eventing competition at Northallerton Equestrian Centre.

The team was aiming to qualify for Nationals in the 80cm class, as they had already worked hard to qualify in the 70cm, 90cm and 1m Arena Eventing classes.  Getting a second team or individuals qualified for the above heights too was also part of the plan.

Faye Barker, Teacher I/c Equestrian Team, said: “We have a squad of 15 riders but only five riders were able to ride that day.  It was great to see the boys riding at this competition who have not all been able to compete for us much this year so far.

This shows the depth we have at Sedbergh to do well.  Riding is one sport where both genders compete equally and of any school age.  Our Prep School pupils joined forces with our Senior School pupils which shows the strong links we have between both schools.

“We were absolutely delighted as our Team went out and achieved our aim with Sedbergh qualifying in the 80cm against strong schools.  The team included Harry Welch, Jack Rigal, Scarlett Holden and Alicia Newing who also came 6th individually. Being successful relies on a strong rider/horse relationship and also good teamwork.

The horse can feel all the riders nerves so it is vital our riders are not fazed by competition and pressure.  The day finished with our 90cm Team.  George Rigal joined the above boys but sadly they just missed out on prizes.

Thank you to all the parents as always.  Another successful outing.”
