SEDBERGH PUPILS SELECTED FOR UK CADET RIFLE TEAM

Struan Freeborn, Max Pybus, Harry Welch (Year 11) and Freddie Cade (Year 10) attended a selection weekend for the UK Cadet Rifle Team earlier this month. The selection weekend, known as Exercise Maple Taste, takes place at Bisley in Surrey and involves an intensive three days of training, shooting and lectures from GB shots.

All four of Sedbergh’s pupils gave it their all and it is testament to their determination and application that they were all selected as part of the UK Cadet Rifle team of twelve which will tour Jersey in August this year. David Nuthall, Sedbergh’s shooting coach said, ‘I have been impressed with their determination to succeed. Their commitment to the sport and their team-mates has paid off’.

The four pupils, whose preparation for selection involved shooting in freezing and snowy conditions on ranges at Catterick will enjoy basking in the sun and swimming in the sea in Jersey, alongside shooting against a young team from the Channel Islands and competing in the island’s individual full-bore open championships.

William Ross also attended Ex Maple Taste as part of the pre-selected British Cadet Rifle Team known as The Athelings. He will tour Canada in August with OS Harriet Bramwell who has just returned from South Africa and a splendid performance representing the GB Under 19 team.
