SEDBERGH SCHOOL HEAD OF MFL AUTHORS FIRST BOOK FOR OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS

Exciting news from the MFL department: Head of Modern Foreign Languages Andrew Loughe has recently had his first title published by Oxford University Press.

“Tricolore 5e édition: Exam Skills for Cambridge IGCSE® Workbook & CD-ROM” was published last month and serves to complement the popular French learning course, Tricolore, which many people will remember from their own school French learning days.

It remains the most successful series from OUP for GCSE and IGCSE French, not only in the UK but around the entire world, and so Andrew was delighted and honoured to be recommended to co-author this workbook.

Andrew, who has been an examiner of IGCSE French for CIE for over eight years now, managed to complete the project with his former colleague, Jane Mansfield, outside of the Sedbergh term. He says: “The deadlines fitted in nicely with our school term dates and I was able to complete all the initial writing over the summer holiday. It was also great timing given that Sedbergh has just started entering pupils in for the Cambridge IGCSE in French and other languages, so the process was highly informative for my own teaching and course planning here at school. I am sure the book will be of huge benefit for our own pupils as the skills and activities in it aim to help pupils reach their potential independently, so it complements their own learning and will help improve results.”

Andrew found the experience of working with a major publishing house very exciting and fulfilling. “It was nice to be seen as the experts in our field and work together with some brilliant editors to produce what is already considered an excellent product” says Andrew.
