SEDBERGH SHOOTERS OFF TO CANADA

Two students from our successful shooting team have been selected for the British Cadet Rifle Team’s Under-17s tour to Canada in August 2019.

Daisy Armstrong and Freddie Cade were chosen after a highly successful season with both winning multiple awards.

Both Daisy and Freddie were winners of the Ashburton Shield, the highly competitive shooting competition between different schools.

Daisy recently scooped a hatful of trophies in Jersey, including the Axis Cup, during which she beat several adult shooters who compete for Great Britain, and the Phil Amy Cup, which makes her the overall Jersey champion at 600 yards.

Freddie qualified for the Queen’s Final and the St George’s Final at Bisley. Rankings vary based on how the statistics are gathered, but these achievements would rank him within the best 50-100 shooters in the UK and approximately the best 100 in the Commonwealth.

Sedbergh teacher and shooting coach Sam Sharma said that he was ‘hugely proud’ of the two pupils.

He said, ‘They have worked extremely hard and achieved tremendously to count themselves among the top of the 40,000 pupils involved in shooting at British schools. I am sure both will go on to do great things in Canada and to extend their international careers from there.’
