SEDBERGH STUDENTS TRIUMPH AT FELL RUNNING EVENT

Pupils from Sedbergh School showed off their fell running skills by taking home several awards at the English Schools Fell Running Championships last week.  Sedbergh girls won the Team Championships in the Years 10/11 and Years 12/13 categories in the event at Giggleswick, while Sedbergh boys won the Year 12/13 Team Championship.

Among the many individual achievements, Fraser Sproul came second in the Year 10/11 race and Alicia Newing also impressed spectators by carrying on her race after losing a shoe halfway round the course. Alicia was instrumental in helping the Year 10/11 girls win their Team Championship.

Sedbergh teacher and running coach Richard Wells said, ‘We have a great history of fell running here at Sedbergh and we often compete well in events, but I was particularly impressed by the pupils’ hard work and determination at these Championships. I think that helped us to win all these awards.’

Sedbergh is set to host the first round of the English Schools Athletics Association Cross-Country Cup on 11 October.
