Sedbergh’s Dr Ripley wins Community Hero Award

It was recently announced that our very own Dr Myles Ripley, Head of Sailing and CCF Officer Commanding, has won a Community Hero Award for all of his extraordinary work this year in the Sedbergh community.

The Community Hero Awards were created by South Lakes Housing (SLH) to celebrate and recognise the achievements of people within their local communities who have gone that extra mile.

Stephen Bolton, Chair of SLH Tenants’ Committee said, “It has been a pleasure to be a part of the judging panel for the Community Hero Awards and to see all of the fantastic community spirit across all of our neighbourhoods. Despite some of the winners having challenges to overcome themselves they still volunteered their time to help and support others.”

Dr Ripley was nominated for the award for his contribution to the Sedbergh community during the first lockdown back in March. Myles took control of Sedbergh and organised food deliveries, medication deliveries, a set up a local food bank outside the Spar in Sedbergh. Myles also heads up the local dementia group, has driven the community transport when required and volunteered daily at Westmorland Hospital throughout the pandemic.

SLH made socially distanced visits to each of the 12 winners, with Dr Ripley saying;
“The award represents recognition of all the work done by my fellow volunteers in the Sedbergh community. Sedbergh covid support group, community first responders, Lookaround team, Western Dales Bus. What a community that can support each other in such a marvellous way!”
