Families of one Sedbergh boarding house raised just under £6,000 for the house and their chosen charity, at a highly successful auction evening held recently.
Parents of School House pupils attended a ‘Cheese and Wine evening’ and auction, with the aim of raising funds for a new kitchenette for pupils and for the house charity, Plastic Oceans UK.
Auction items were kindly donated by parents and local companies. Highly popular items included a week’s stay at a villa in La Manga on the Costa Calida in Spain, as well as a three-day stay at a luxury hilltop reserve on the West Coast of Scotland and a chance for a group to try out their beer-making skills on a ‘Be a Brewer’ day with Lancaster Brewery.
The event was organised by housemaster Peter Coke and his wife Katherine. The wine tasting was provided by Jean Juviniere, a family-run business from Glossop, Derbyshire. The cheeses were provided by the Churchmouse store and delicatessen in Barbon, near Kirkby Lonsdale.
The auctioneer for the evening was Jon Richardson, a tutor at School House. Mr Richardson impressed everyone by managing to sell a bag of potatoes for £50.
Mrs Coke was delighted by the ‘highly successful’ evening and offered many thanks to the parents who attended and contributed.
