TENNIS RISING IN POPULARITY AND SUCCESS AT SEDBERGH

Tennis is going from strength to strength at Sedbergh School, with all teams securing excellent wins in this first half of the term.  Our 1st IV girls are through to the North final v RGS on 8th June,  having beaten Windermere School, Giggleswick and Strathallan (for the first time ever) to get to the final.

Lucia Sdao, Head of Girls Sport, says, “We have high hopes for Nicole Jefferies, Imogen Boddy and the two year 9s, Alice Hollings and Lottie.”

The Aegon Team Tennis Schools Series is going very well for our Year 10s, with our Y10 girls having won all games against schools in Cumbria.

Issi Chamberlain, Imogen Thompson, Rosie Herman and Savannah Shewan played and our Year 10 boys, Victor Leung, Will Guthrie, Andrew Lehner and Theo Blondel, had a tough game against QEGS Penrith, and lost, but were satisfied in their achievement of putting up a great game against GB representatives.

With the growing popularity for tennis, and the opportunity for private coaching from Jon Griffin and Max Shaw, who also coach at Sedbergh Prep School, we have established fixtures for all abilities and have played 12 pair fixtures against Giggleswick, Bradford Grammar and Windermere.

We now look forward to the second half of term, which holds the Northern Tournaments and St Peter’s festival in York, for juniors.

Congratulations also to Alice Hollings and Lottie Burns, who played for Cumbria in an U14 Girls County Cup invitational tournament held at Woodford Wells, Essex.

Head Coach of the team said: “Lottie played some magnificent tennis from the back of the court to outplay her opponent, and Alice and Lottie played some good doubles. The girls were an absolute pleasure to take away and should be proud of how well they played.

A special mention to Alice who stepped up a gear playing some fantastic players and giving them a run for their money. Well done!”
