WILSON RUN 2018

Dear Parents, Old Sedberghians and Guests

We are looking forward to the Wilson Run on Tuesday 20th March. This brief letter is a supplement to that sent on Saturday 17th which provided guidance about the organisation of the race and seeks your support in limiting road traffic, in particular between Danny Bridge car park and the finish. I should be grateful if you would read that letter before joining us.

It has snowed throughout the weekend and this, coupled with a strong wind and cold temperatures, has made some roads impassable through a combination of ice and minor drifting. We expect all roads to be open on Tuesday morning but urge caution in travelling to Sedbergh, especially if you are arriving via the M6 and Black Horse Hill. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use Junction 34 or 36 and travel up the Lune valley where roads are protected and hills less steep. Minor lanes are icy where water flows over the road and we advise you not to use these.

If you are planning to walk the course or spectate from an exposed location (Green Hill, Danny Bridge car park, Spectators’ Hill) please ensure you are extremely well protected. Wind chill on the hill-tops is currently below -10oC and although the wind is set to drop on Tuesday, it will still be cold on the fells.

Runners should consider Fell Racing Association guidelines which require waterproof whole-body cover, hat, gloves, map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food.

We look forward to welcoming you to Sedbergh for an excellent race and hope these two letters will provide you with the information you need.

With best wishes

Andrew Fleck
