Below are the summaries from our recent A Level and GCSE results. You can find the detailed subject results for A Level and GCSE results by year by downloading the PDFs underneath.
We were delighted with our GCSE results, which rank third over the past ten years, with some exceptional individual performances. The percentage of pupils achieving 9-7 Grades has held steady at just under 41%, with the percentage of pass grades (9-4) at 92%. A real strength were our Science departments, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics all achieving more than 60% of grades at A*/A.
At A Level we had a strong year for our cohort in Year 13s, with nearly 80% of all results being C grade or higher, and nearly a quarter of all results being A or A*. Over the past three years we have had an average of over 33% of grades at A*/A. As well as offering the traditional A Level subjects, we also offer a range of BTEC qualifications, and our results in these have been exceptional over the past three years, with just over 41% of pupils achieving Distinction or Distinction* grades (equivalent to A/A* in A Level) in 2019.
Particularly pleasingly, our Value-Added scores at GCSE were very good indeed. We use the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) YELLIS statistics to evaluate pupil performance, and as a school we have a positive value added score, with many departments significantly adding value. Recently, at A Level, we were ranked within the top 10% of schools nationally for Value Added. We consistently stretch the very top, with pupils leaving Sedbergh to the best universities across the world, but we ensure that every pupil gets the support necessary for them to reach their full potential.
