The Administrative Officer will be responsible for the completion of administrative functions within the HR department. Job Title: Biology Technician
Location: Sedbergh School
Contract Type: Full time, permanent, term time only + 3 additional working weeks
Salary: £22,557per annum

The School has an excellent reputation in academics, sports, and creative arts, which has led to continued growth in the pupil roll for the past ten years. Circa 600 pupils are accommodated in a full boarding school environment and a further 200 at Sedbergh Prep School in Casterton.
We are now seeking a full time Biology Technician, to provide outstanding support to the Biology Department.
Our Biology Department is staffed by an enthusiastic and experienced team of four Biology specialists and a technician. Our courses include plenty of laboratory practical work and field visits. All four laboratories are equipped with multimedia projectors linked to the School’s Intranet. We are fortunate in having grassland, woodland and freshwater sites within the School grounds.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
The duties of the Biology Technician are varied, and this Job Description is not intended to cover every possible aspect of the job. There will be training and support available for candidates, so a keenness to learn new skills is essential. Flexibility, a willingness to work as part of a team and good humour are essential qualities. It is anticipated that the main areas of responsibility will be as follows:
- The preparation of laboratory experiments/demonstrations in advance of lessons.
- Liaising with teachers before and after lessons to ensure equipment is set up as required and to log issues to improve future lessons.
- To reset classrooms between lessons.
- Cleaning, washing, and drying used glassware with the aid of a dishwasher.
- Regularly checking and refilling bottles of chemicals, stationery and apparatus used in laboratories.
- To arrange for the maintenance of equipment and keep appropriate records.
- To arrange for the replacement or fixing of broken equipment.
- To assist in the development and design new specialist apparatus.
- To keep up to date with current practices through appropriate training.
- To provide guidance to new teachers.
- To work independently, whilst being part of a departmental team, to organise your own workload.
- To advise on any future projects or alterations within the department from a technical viewpoint.
- To carry out further technical duties as directed by the Head of Department or School.

CSPS are looking for an innovative and experienced Chef Manager to lead our dedicated, friendly and professional catering team. They will primarily be based at CSPS whilst also offering support to the wider Catering Department at Sedbergh when required.
The successful candidate will have experience of leading and developing a team in a busy and pressurised kitchen and of working as a head chef within a commercial environment. We are looking for hardworking individuals with a passion for plumbing to undertake general and specialist plumbing work across our two state of the art campus’.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a team, and be willing to provide support to other team members with general maintenance tasks. These may include manual handling and portering tasks, as well as completing minor repairs to our prestigious boarding houses and school buildings.

We are looking for hardworking individuals with a passion for building and maintenance work to assist with the building and repair work at our excellent campus in Sedbergh.
The ideal candidate will be confident to carry out general building work and maintenance, including construction work to school properties. To ensure that all work undertaken is completed with due regard for timescales, cost, quality, productivity, good communications and in line with health and safety requirements.

Job Title: Grounds Person (Sports Turf)

Sedbergh School is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy Estates Department as a full time Grounds Person.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with sports turf.
The ground staff team of Sedbergh School provide pupils, staff and visitors to the School with sports and amenity facilities commensurate with the School’s long standing position as a leading Independent School and major sporting institution.
The duties of a Grounds Person will be wide and varied and it is not intended to cover every duty on this list; it is anticipated that the duties may change from time to time
Duties will include:
- All aspects of grass pitch maintenance and preparation including but not limited to gang mowing, pitch marking, sand spreading, wicket preparation, rolling;
- Preparation and maintenance of cricket wickets;
- Maintenance works to the all-weather playing surface;
- General sports facility care and preparation including hard surface tennis and netball courts and athletics facilities;
- Estate work including hedging, fencing, and other general duties estate work as required;
- Maintenance of clearing paths and roads during autumn and winter;
- Litter picking;
- The use and maintenance of hand tools and basic light machinery and plant;
- The use of cylinder and rotary mowers, strimmers, leaf blowers;
- Adjustments of mower height and quality of cut, etc. Oil level checks and check for damage to any mower;
- To respond to emergencies and assist other departments i.e. cricket, golf as directed by the Grounds Manager, Head Gardener or Estates Bursar;

- To ensure all equipment, machinery and buildings are secure;

Reporting to and working with the Catering Manager, the House Chef will successfully run their own kitchen. They will have the chance to design menus and produce different and exciting food for our students’ lunch time and evening meals, as well as being creative with healthy snacks.
The House Chef is responsible for any food related paperwork, adhering to budgets, handling deliveries and ensuring stock levels are correct.
They will also ensure that food hygiene is of a consistently high standard.
The ideal candidate will have an NVQ in cookery, paired with some quality industry experience.
The role will be full time, working 40 hours per week across 5 days.
Shift patterns are generally 6.30am – 3.30pm or 10am – 7pm.
Some flexibility may be required for House events, such as garden parties, parents’ dinners and pupil balls.

Sedbergh School is looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Chef to join their team. You will be a paid member of staff whilst taking part in an accredited programme.
On a Sedbergh School apprenticeship you can gain all the skills and training you need for a successful and rewarding career whilst having the full support of the Catering Manager and his team. You will develop vital experience and qualifications while you earn a wage on a full-time permanent contract enjoying full employee benefits, including swimming pool, gym and free parking.
You will follow the standards as set out on the NVQ framework and will have an in-house assessor supporting you to make sure that you understand all the key aspects of your role.
The duties of the Apprentice Chef will be wide and varied and the key responsibilities are:

- To help produce menus, whilst ensuring compliance through the schools nominated suppliers.
