Sedbergh School have been recognised by ‘The Week’ magazine for its extensive outdoor education programme, and their dedication to providing opportunities outside the classroom. This love of nature and the great outdoors starts at Sedbergh Prep School.
From our youngest children, in Reception, who take part in weekly ‘Out and About’ sessions, we find extensive opportunities to integrate classroom learning with outdoor experiences that provide relevance and depth to the curriculum. As the children move through the school, we continue to use the natural environment as a positive learning environment.
With the Cumbrian fells on our doorstep, our setting plays a huge role in developing the children’s appreciation of the outdoors. Whether it is tackling our famous ‘Epic’ run, an undulating, 7-mile cross country course for Year 7 and 8 pupils and staff, or joining the Wolfpack, a club that teaches pupils bushcraft and survival skills, our staff always make full use of the school’s inspiring location. Through careful and sensitive teaching, we aim to foster a spirit of adventure both in and outside the classroom, whilst also providing pupils with the space and time to enjoy their childhood.
